The Rugby Championship: A Series of Rugby Tournaments

rugby today

The Rugby Championship is a series of rugby tournaments played in the southern hemisphere. It is contested annually by four Southern Hemisphere rugby teams: South Africa and Australia, Argentina, New Zealand and Australia. Each year, the team with the highest points wins. This is determined through a bonus points system. One example is that a team could earn a bonus point if they score four or more attempts. A bonus point can be earned even if the team loses by just a few points.

Eight teams will be eligible for the play-offs. Each team is seeded into four pools. In the semi-finals the top four teams will take on each other. The winner of the play-offs will advance to the Final Match. Teams will face off against each other at home and away during the play-offs. They will also play two other teams from their pool.

The final will be held at a predetermined venue. The winning team will be declared the champion. Typically, the final will be a knockout match. The final may be close sometimes, but it's not impossible. To win the prize, players usually play for 80 minutes.

The four regional pools where teams are drawn are the Welsh Pool, the Italian Pool, and South African Pool. These pools are also called the South African Pool. All teams will play each other at minimum six times during the regular season. Some of these matches are derby games.

The Rugby Championship used to be called the Tri Nations before the 2011-2012 season. The title became The Rugby Championship, however, when Argentina was included in the tournament. The event has grown in popularity since the inclusions of Argentina and Brazil. Although it is controversial, the tournament has seen a wider audience.

Each tournament is held in a different country. Each year, the competition begins in July. The Rugby Championship, unlike the Six Nations, is a regional competition. Instead, it is a joint competition between four countries in the Southern Hemisphere. New Zealand has won the Rugby Championship the most times of any other team. The All Blacks are currently on seven titles, while three have been won by the Springboks.

The tournament is covered by several television networks. Setanta Sports covers the tournament in the United States, Canada and Europe. Also, Eurosport is a major European provider of coverage.
